Clerestory Learning is an organization that equips teachers through services that offer effective instructional solutions based on educational implications from diverse scientific research fields, including neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and brain development. Kevin has degrees in elementary education, English, and educational leadership.
Session 1: "Increasing Learning by Minding Mindset In this session, Kevin advocates for a shift in teachers’ perspectives and language that will greatly impact student success. Belief influences effort, effort influences achievement, achievement influences confidence. The truth: intelligence is not fixed but malleable, an entity that can be increased with the right environment. What students believe about intelligence influences their goals, effort, and responses to setbacks. This session explores how educators can create environments for students that help encourage beliefs that will empower their achievement and ultimately their confidence to engage in the challenges before them.
Over the past thirty years, Kim Bearden has been a teacher, instructional lead teacher, curriculum director, school board member, staff development trainer, and middle school principal. Kim’s book, Crash Course: The Life Lessons My Students Taught Me, made several bestseller lists, including the LA Times.
Session 2: “Things Teachers Should Know” Kim Bearden is a teacher with a powerful imagination who creatively considers how to meet her students where they are and launch them into the future. Passion can take many different forms, but when you exude it, people will be drawn to it. Kim explains how to keep up this passion as teachers while going through the issues of life. It is not what happens to us that defines us, but what happens through us that writes our story as we allow ourselves to be vessels to do God’s work.
Session 3: "Creating Culture" In this session, Kim encourages teachers to teach in ways that are creative, useful, or emotional to move concepts into long-term memory. Music, chants, and cheers encourage students to rediscover the joy of learning.
