Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming teaching, learning, and school operations, and Christian schools have a unique opportunity to approach these tools with wisdom, discernment, and theological grounding. In this webinar, school leaders will better understand the opportunities and challenges of AI through a distinctly Christian lens. Participants will explore practical applications for schools, implications for student formation, and frameworks for leading their communities with clarity, responsibility, and hope in an AI-shaped world.
Many believe that AI could lead us toward some sort of paradise. A rival story suggests that AI will ultimately threaten humanity. This talk will explore a vision for AI informed by the Biblical story and some implications for education.
We will be joined by Dr. Derek Schuurman of Calvin University, a leading scholar and practitioner in the field of artificial intelligence, who will bring deep expertise and thoughtful Christian perspective to the conversation.
Derek Schuurman worked as an electrical engineer for several years and later completed a Ph.D. at McMaster University in the area of robotics and computer vision using machine learning. He is currently professor and chair of computer science at Calvin University, a fellow of the American Scientific Affiliation, a fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion, and an advisor for AI&Faith. He is the author of the book Shaping a Digital World: Faith, Culture and Computer Technology and co-author of A Christian Field Guide to Technology for Engineers and Designers, both published by InterVarsity Academic Press.
